Stefan Pohlit
Biography
Stefan Pohlit, composer and music theorist. Born in Heidelberg, Germany. First private lessons in composition with Róbert Wittinger. He studied with Theo Brandmüller (Saarbrücken), Detlev Müller-Siemens and Roland Moser (Basel), Gilbert Amy and Marco Stroppa (Lyon), as well as Wolfgang Rihm, Sandeep Bhagwati and Peter-Michael Riehm (Karlsruhe). He undertook various journeys to the East and began to study Arabic and Islam. As from 2003, he attended the music research centre MİAM at the Istanbul Technical University and the Ankara Folk Music Archives. Since 2007, he lives in Turkey. Since 2012, Assistant Professor for composition and music theory at the İstanbul State Conservatory of Turkish Music.
His music has been performed, among others, by the radio symphony orchestras of Stuttgart (SWR) and Saarbrücken (SR), by the Ensemble Phoenix (Basel), the Ensemble Reconsil (Vienna, Austria), the Stadler Quartett (Salzburg, Austria), UMS 'n JIP (Basel), and by the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet.
