Accidentals for 72-EDO
The following table shows the accidentals for the 72-tone equal-temperament system (72-EDO, twelfth-tone system, Ekmelic system).
- arrow — Arrow notation
Arrow symbols after Gould, half arrow symbols (hooks) after Ezra Sims, Wilson plus / minus, and Standard sharp / flat symbols. The symbols are placed either alone or a Standard symbol is combined with one of the other symbols.
- rhm — Richter Herf / Maedel notation
Arrow symbols after Franz Richter Herf and Rolf Maedel, and Standard sharp / flat symbols. The symbols are placed either alone or a Standard symbol is combined with an arrow symbol. Originally, the arrow symbols were placed separately above the notes, see Notation. But this is not supported by Ekmelily and ekmelib. The arrow symbols are “Optional Glyphs” of the Ekmelos font.
- sims — Sims notation
Arrow symbols after Ezra Sims, and Standard sharp / flat symbols. The symbols are placed either alone or a Standard symbol is combined with an arrow symbol. Also known as “Maneri / Sims” notation.
- hesse — Hesse notation
Arrow symbols after Horst-Peter Hesse, and Standard sharp / flat symbols. The symbols are placed either alone or a Standard symbol is combined with an arrow symbol. The arrow symbols are “Optional Glyphs” of the Ekmelos font and resemble arrow.
- sag — Sagittal notation
Sagittal (“arrow-like”) symbols after George D. Secor and David C. Keenan, sagittal.org. sag is the "Pure Sagittal notation" in contrast to msag. It uses one distinct symbol for each alteration up to the whole tone. For higher alterations, two symbols are combined.
- msag — Mixed Sagittal notation
Sagittal (“arrow-like”) symbols after George D. Secor and David C. Keenan, sagittal.org, and Standard sharp / flat symbols using the large double-sharp symbol. The symbols are placed either alone or a Standard symbol is combined with a Sagittal symbol.
- wys — Wyschnegradsky notation
Symbols after Iwan Wyschnegradsky, and Standard double-sharp / flat symbols. Uses one distinct symbol for each alteration up to the whole tone. For higher alterations, two symbols are combined.
- haba — Hába notation
Sixth- and twelfth-tone symbols after Alois Hába, and Standard double-sharp / flat symbols. Uses one distinct symbol for each alteration ascending up to the whole tone and descending up to the semitone. For the remaining alterations, two symbols are combined. The Hába symbols are “Optional Glyphs” of the Ekmelos font.
- gostz — Gould / Stein / Zimmermann notation
Arrow-sharp / flat symbols after Gould, fractional sharp symbols and quarter-tone flat symbol after Richard Stein, three-quarters-tone flat symbol after Bernd A. Zimmerman, Standard sharp / flat symbols, and Wilson plus / minus. Uses the narrow variant of the reversed flat.

Variant of gostz with the three-quarters-tone flat symbol after Mildred Couper.
- bos — Bosanquet commatic notation
Comma symbol after Robert H. M. Bosanquet, and Standard sharp / flat symbols. The symbols are placed either alone or a Standard symbol is combined with a comma symbol.
