Siegfried Steinkogler
Biography
Siegfried Steinkogler, composer and guitarist. Born in in Bad Ischl, Upper Austria. He studied at the Mozarteum Academy Salzburg guitar with Barna Kováts, Elliot Fisk, and Joaquin Clerch, as well as composition with Reinhard Febel and Gerhard Wimberger, and at the Real Conservatorio de Musica de Madrid (diploma with distinction). He attended master courses with Alvaro Pierri, Aldo Minella, Leo Brouwer, and Nikolaus Harnoncourt.
His work encompasses mainly orchestral works, vocal and chamber music with own lyrics, as well as music for guitar and harmonica. He wrote contract compositions for the Land Salzburg, the ORF (“Inconcertiamento”, 2002), and the city of Oberndorf.
Project "Die Neue Mundharmonika" ("The new mouth-organ") in order to create a contemporary repertoire for harmonica; in 1996, foundation of the duo Painted Harmony (harmonica and guitar), two CD-productions and performances in Düsseldorf, Trossingen, Leipzig, Linz/Brucknerhaus, Salzburg/"ASPEKTE Salzburg" et al. Tour across Norway with a solo program "Gitarrenmusik aus Österreich" ("Guitar music from Austria"). In 2002, foundation of the Ensemble str|ng plus (tour across Italy in 2004). In 2003, artistic direction of the "salzkammergut str|ng festival".
Pedagogic work: master course (guitar) at the conservatory Trondheim, Norway (2002); lecturer at the 2nd Int. Guitar festival Bad Reichenhall, Germany, (1995); presentation of own educational works at Schloss Weinberg and at the Salzburger Musikschulwerk. He is teaching at the musikum salzburg.
Meine Musik ist vielfach von einer außermusikalischen Idee beeinflusst. Oft ist diese "Idee" mir aber nur Mittel zum Zweck beim Schaffensprozess und tritt im Endeffekt in der Komposition nur marginal zu Tage. Stilistisch gesehen ist dabei die Mikrotonalität ein tragender Faktor
