Description
Der Name Alapa ist der indischen Kunstmusik entnommen. Man bezeichnet damit die langsame Einleitung zu dem schnelleren, rhythmisch prägnanteren Dhrupad. Über einem liegenden Akkord schwingt sich eine einstimmige Melodie, aus der Tiefe kommend bis zum Höhepunkt empor und endet schließlich wieder in der Tiefe. Diese meditative Musik stellt eine Art Transkription indischer Melodik für die Ekmelische Orgel dar.

Der griechische Gott Pan pflegte mittags zu schlafen (die Stunde des Pan), während er am Tage mit den Nymphen Berg und Tal durchstreifte. Die Form der Komposition wird hier durch den literarischen Vorwurf bestimmt. In der drückenden Mittagshitze drängen sich Erinnerungen an Erlebnisse und Taten auf; aber die Gedanken entschwinden und Pan sinkt in den Schlaf.
